Twitter Admit not Having the Bandwidth’ to Fix Verification Right Now

Today, Twitter’s new head of product announced that the Twitter does not currently have the bandwidth to overhaul its verification system. But this all will comes regardless of the Twitter’s sustained acknowledgement that it surely brings some transparency and also a very clear process to the verification and the also blue checkmark which has been stamped on the accounts which is belonging to an unreliable mix of the world celebrities, leaders, athletes, business executives, journalists, and also the alt-right nationalists. Though the company will maintain the verification which is vitally intended to confirm an account’s authenticity that is not signal any sort of the endorsement. But it is a lack of any original rhyme or some reasons to the verification system which has made it very easy to conflate the two.
Previously in March, the CEO Jack Dorsey predicted an overhauled verification approach which would allow any of the users to become verified in a way that is scalable where Twitter is not in the way and the users can also verify some more facts about themselves and anyone cannot be the judge or imply any prejudice on the user’s part.
But, Kayvon Beykpour a product lead said that their team is pausing work on retooling the verification and also the task which is not a top priority for the company right now. Instead, the health tem of the Twitter is keenly focused on the election integrity and combating disinformation further on the coming US midterm elections, by this November and also the political contests elsewhere.
Beykpour also tweeted that it’s focus will help the company to move faster on what they think is much more important. After the company makes more progress, then the company is planning to address the verification. He also said that it could also happen to start in about almost four weeks, though it ’s timetable might shift.
At present, the company said that it will continue to grant the verification on an ad hoc basis. Beykpour also added in a post that in November, the Twitter announced that it was a hitting pause on the public verifications as it pursued a better system for the users. But all the accounts are still verified when the company think it serves the public conversation and is also in line with the policy of the company. It has led to the frustration as the process will always remains inconsistent and opaque with the company’s intended pause. And it is also far from the ideal and the company will still intend to fix it.
But in an email which is sent to the Twitter’s health leadership team, Beykpour laid out to the current crunch on the priorities. He even doesn’t believe that they have the bandwidth to address this holistically which is without coming at the cost of some other priorities and also distracting the team. The company is already doing way too many things, and now also focusing on this it will slow down and lessen the quality of important areas like elections integrity.
